Almaty Animation Festival Announces Winners



From July 26-28, the 2nd Almaty Animation Festival was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, organised by Association of Turkic Animation’ (ATA) member Anita Chernykh (director/founder), Ivan Ardashov (program director/founder) and Anuar Kenzhibayev (founder).


ATA’s members Kairat Mukanov (Chief Advisor to the Secretary General of TÜRKSOY), Rashid Aghamaliyev (Chairman of Azerbaijan Animation Association), Gali Myrzashev (director) attend the festival.


During the opening ceremony on July 26, the festival's director Anita Chernykh, welcomed the guests and declared the event open. Following this, films in the "Best Student Animated Film" category were screened as part of the competition program.


The three-day festival featured films from local, foreign, and Central Asian countries, and masterclasses were organized.


As part of the festival, Nazrin Aghamaliyeva (Azerbaijan), the author of the animated film "Hadis," which won the "Best Visual Solution" award at the 2023 Almaty Animation Festival, conducted a masterclass. After the masterclass, the animated film "Hadis" was shown again.



On July 28, during the closing ceremony, the chairman of the international jury, Rashid Aghamaliyev (Azerbaijan), and jury members Anna Popova (Russia), Chyngiz Asanaliev (Kyrgyzstan), and Almaz Kosobaev (Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan) announced the winners:


• Best Central Asia&CIS Animation: "Syppyt suruktar" ("Lost Letters"). Kyhynngy Oyuur (Russia, Republic of Sakha)

• Best Animated Documentary: "The Waiting". Volker Schlecht (Germany)

• Best Student Animation: "Chosen't". Yotam Goren (Israel)

• Best International Animation: "The Three Sisters". Timur Kognov (Cyprus)

• Best Experimental Animation: "Simple Forms". Natalia Ryss (Israel)

• Best Animated Music Video: "Ninety One - Synbaim". Amal' Temerbayev (Kazakhstan)

• Special Jury Award: "SHITV.Spy". Askar Urmanov (Uzbekistan)

• Special Jury Award: "Wait For Me In a Dream". Natalia Durszewicz (Poland)
